Built for Times Like These
Forbes.com recently published an article promoting old fashioned whole life insurance from mutual companies. The title is “A Financial Bunker For Scary Times” by John E. Girouard.
This is an excellent article promoting the benefits of traditional whole life insurance which has become an asset class when discussing asset allocation with clients. The article points out that mutual whole life insurance dates back 1400 years, has a competitive interest rate in today’s economy, and is a safe harbor during economic turmoil. Girouard calls it a financial bunker for scary times.
The article points out that mutual life insurance is making a comeback now that our speculative economy has blown up, and financial disaster is driving people away from risk and back to basics. A product that was once out of favor is again being recognized as a safe haven for part of an individual’s portfolio in addition to providing the death benefit protection.
