Michael Kalen is president and CEO of Futurity First Financial Corp (FFFC). FFFC is an independent distribution company specializing in the sale of annuities, life insurance and other financial products. FFFC’s largest subsidiary is Dressander|BHC, a billion-dollar annuity and life field marketing organization that represents more than 40 insurance companies, supporting independent agents, RIAs, registered reps and partner firms.
He first joined FFFC in January 2010 as the CEO of the Career Division, Futurity First Insurance Group, which was sold to SMS in March 2015 after a 25 year career in the insurance and financial services industry with Hartford Life and Prudential Financial. Kalen was a senior officer with The Hartford Financial Services Group, where he was executive vice president of Hartford’s individual life group, CEO of Hartford Life Europe and president of HESCO, Hartford’s wholesale broker-dealer. Under his leadership, these business groups posted growth in sales and market share for six consecutive years, earning recognition for innovation and customer service.
Prior to joining The Hartford, Kalen held various senior positions at Prudential Financial, including the positions of vice president of insurance and estate planning, CFO for Prudential Preferred Financial Services and managing director of Prudential’s North Jersey Sales office.
Kalen has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware and a master’s in business administration from Columbia University. He is a CLU and ChFC. He is a registered principal of Futurity First Investment Services, Inc., member of FINRA. Kalen also serves on the advisory board of Life Happens and Ipipeline and has previously been on the board of trustees of American College and served on ACLI, LIMRA and GAMA committees.
