Life Insurance Awareness Month 2011 Update

To help you prepare for LIAM, the LIFE staff has developed a suite of company planning resources. Please click on the Toolkit icon to the right to access the resources.

While you’re putting together your organization’s LIAM plans, LIFE will be fine tuning its own plans. Here are 4 things that we’re particularly excited about:

  1. Lamar Odom is the 2011 LIAM Spokesperson – Lamar Odom, a two-time NBA champion and star of the hit reality TV show Khloé & Lamar, is this year’s LIAM spokesperson. Lamar grew up in a single-parent household in Queens, New York and lost his mother to colon cancer when he was 12 years old. His mother’s life insurance played a big role in helping to keep Lamar’s life on track. The public schools where he lived weren’t good, but insurance money allowed Lamar to remain in Catholic school where he continued to get a great education. When he turned 18, he didn’t have to immediately earn a paycheck, which gave him the opportunity to attend college for several years. Learn more about Lamar’s story here.
  2. Picture Mosaic – When someone owns a life insurance policy, that person has done something wonderful for their loved ones…they’ve made a promise to provide for them, even after they’re gone. To help celebrate this act of selfless love, LIFE will create a Facebook-based, picture mosaic featuring photos of thousands of families and individuals whose financial well-being is safeguarded by life insurance. LIFE hopes that you will support this initiative by reaching out to your policyholders and encouraging them to be a part of this beautiful and meaningful mosaic.
  3. realLIFEstories – LIFE’s signature program has found a new home…well, two homes actually. For the first time, these compelling stories will appear in two magazines at the same time. Look for them in the September issues of O and Parents magazines, which should hit newsstands on or about August 9, 2011.
  4. New Marketing Resources – LIFE recently introduced a wealth of new life insurance marketing resources – print pieces, videos and merchandise. Place your order early at www.lifecatalog.org to make sure that you’ll be ready to conduct aggressive outreach to the public when September arrives.
